With sharp, refined skills honed over more than a decade in the makeup industry, Vancouver makeup artist Hailey Avalon is certainly seasoned when it comes to her craft. But if you ask Hailey herself what sets her apart from a sea of others who call makeup artistry their profession, she’ll tell you it’s not just about skill, but personality, too. “I’m a pretty down-to-earth person. I believe I have the ability to connect with clients on a personal level,” she reveals. “I can study a person’s face, look into their eyes and know exactly what to do with the makeup application.”
In a nutshell, Hailey is personable, precise, and perfectly confident. She sees each face as a fresh, beautiful new canvas, to which she applies her original art. She is lively and conversational, cultivating ease and instant comfort in her clients. She studies the curves and planes of every face, mapping out and executing the perfect cat eye, foundation application, bridal beautification, and anything in between.
Hailey fine-tuned her makeup technique under mentors at beauty giants Estee Lauder and Lancôme, respectively. After attending the John Casablancas Fashion Institute as a teenager, she was compelled by what she had learned about beauty and cosmetics. Hailey credits her initial makeup skills to this. But the ultimate inspiration for her career was none other than the late legendary artist Kevyn Aucoin. “He influenced me at a very young age, and the moment I began to read his celebrated book Face Forward, I knew that makeup artistry was where I belonged,” she says.
Shortly after completing her education at the institute, the combination of her natural application skills, impressive knowledge of makeup and understanding of colour landed Hailey her first job as a makeup artist behind an Estee Lauder counter. This position offered her invaluable hands-on experience and intensive training, setting her on the path to a successful career.
Armed with a diverse portfolio that includes editorial work, Beauty and FX Makeup, Hailey is proud to say that she attended the Makeup Design Program for Film and TV at Vancouver Film School this past year.
She is driven by a deep passion for colour and artistic expression through makeup, and she possesses a keen eye for detail. This, combined with her diverse list of services, and commitment to offering a kit that includes non-toxic options are all factors that make Hailey Avalon one of the most in-demand makeup artists in Vancouver
